What happens when you ignore signs?
In the Gospel from today’s Mass (John 31-36), Jesus offers some clarity about obedience and disobedience:
[31]He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth belongs to the earth, and of the earth he speaks; he who comes from heaven is above all. [32] He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony; [33] he who receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. [34] For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for it is not by measure that he gives the Spirit; [35] the Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. [36] He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him.
What Jesus says in this passage from John is profound and clear, but many do not heed the Lord’s clear direction:
- Jesus is clearly is asserting that He is sent from God in heaven to explicitly teach the Truth.
- Not only that, Jesus is saying that all thing have been delivered into the hand of Jesus.
- Given that, all people are to believe in Jesus Christ and obey His teachings.
- Those who believe and obey have eternal life; those who do not obey shall not see life and will bear the wrath of God.
Many today, like little children, are disobeying the Word of God, thinking that everything is simply fun and games. And that God doesn’t mean what He says.
God has given a clear sign in the Gospels and in the Church: believe in Jesus and obey His words and you will be rewarded with eternal life. Disobey, and you will face the wrath of God.
Pray that all people repent from sin, return to the Church and live lives that aspire to holiness in Christ.
Read Scripture, it is a clear sign.
